My Registry Office Wedding Experience
We chose a simple “You & Two” ceremony in Hertfordshire, at the Hemel Hempstead Registry Office. We did this for a number of reasons, including wanting to have a friend officiate our ceremony next August at our larger wedding. As we knew we wanted a friend to officiate, we were always going to have to do the legal bit beforehand, so we chose to do it on our existing anniversary, to keep things simple and to choose a date that was already meaningful to us.
Because we chose the most simple ceremony available, we could not take photos in the room (it was literally someone’s office) and the ceremony lasted about 5 minutes. We had to repeat the specific words that are legally binding, sign our documents, exchange rings (optional) and then we were married! My husband’s sister and brother-in-law were our witnesses, and our 10 month old niece also attended, but we did warn them beforehand about the baby being present.
A friend of ours did the same You & Two ceremony in a different Hertfordshire registry office, and they were allowed photos, so I suppose it just depends on the office you choose. We didn’t mind though, we took some photos after the ceremony and we’re still having our celebrant-led ceremony next year where we’ll say our own vows, so the no-pictures rule didn’t bother us.
